Newnham Parish Council are now working with West Northants Council and the Badby Flood Warden in a response to the flooding in Newnham in November 2024. We are actively looking for a long-term solution to minimise further flood risks in the area. This will include the clearing of ditches on the Preston Capes Road and regular gully maintenance.
The Parish Council are also looking into supplying sandbags to residents in and around Badby Road to use in the event of any re-occurrence, whilst the long-term solutions are being implemented. In the autumn, the PC will organise a public event for residents that require them, to fill and take sandbags to store at their properties.
Unfortunately, there is not a quick-fix solution, but we will endeavour to accomplish the work required to prevent further flooding as soon as possible.
In addition to the work in response to the November flooding, we are continuing to push West Northants Council to complete the remaining phases of the drainage work which focussed on The Green last summer. The work remaining is the examination and clearance of the drainage system on Daventry Road and Newnham Hill, to reduce the volume of water flowing down the road into the village.
Further updates will be provided in due course.
